Book One in the Dragons of Aethryn Series

Dragons of Aethryn is a powerful fantasy series where survivors’ real stories are told through myth, magic, and dragons.

In the Realm of Aethryn, the Order claims to rule the land through power, hierarchy, and control. But beneath the towers and rituals, resistance is growing quietly in the forests, the mountains, and the forgotten villages.

Each book follows a different protagonist who arrives in the remote mountain settlement of Pinefall, a refuge where broken bonds begin to heal.

In Aethryn, every human soul has a dragon.

The dragon represents the inner self—the voice of instinct, truth, and survival that cannot be fully silenced.

Yet the Order has spent generations learning how to control that bond.

Through the journeys of survivors, the Dragons of Aethryn series explores the many forms abuse can take and how systems of power sustain it. Each story shines a light on a different pattern of harm while also revealing the strength required to survive it.

The series explores themes such as:

  • Narcissistic abuse and domestic violence
  • Bullying and the harm caused by intolerance
  • Child abuse and betrayal within families
  • Religious rigidity and ideological control
  • Psychological manipulation, coercion, and institutional power

While each book stands on its own, the stories slowly weave together a larger narrative. Across the realm, the Order’s grip is beginning to crack as a quiet resistance rises—one survivor at a time.

At the heart of every story is the same truth:

The bond between a human and their dragon may be wounded, hidden, or silenced…
 but it cannot be destroyed.

A portion of proceeds from the series supports Dragonheart Equine-Assisted Programs, which help survivors of abuse and trauma rebuild safety, strength, and connection.

Rhaevyn Fyre

A dragon.

A broken bond.

A kingdom built on control.

In the realm of Aethryn, power belongs to the Order. Through an ancient system of dragon bonds and rigid hierarchy, the Order governs dragons, riders, and the entire realm beneath its rule.

Yenna Vael has lived her entire life inside that system. As a ward of the Order, her future has never been her own. Every decision is dictated by those above her, every movement watched, every bond monitored.

But Yenna is not alone. She is bonded to Rhaevyn Fyre, a dragon whose presence burns bright with instinct, loyalty, and a fierce will that refuses to be broken.

When Yenna is transferred to the powerful Keeper Caldus Veyr, she enters the imposing city of Veyreach, where dragons are kept, power is enforced, and obedience is expected. What begins as another chapter of control slowly reveals something unexpected.

Kindness.

Permission.

The fragile illusion of freedom.

Yet beneath the surface of Veyreach, the machinery of the Order continues to turn. The system that binds dragons and riders together was never meant to create partnership. It was designed to maintain power. And the more Yenna learns, the more dangerous that knowledge becomes.

As tensions rise across Aethryn and whispers of resistance begin to stir, Yenna must decide whether survival means enduring the system… or daring to challenge it. Because when the bonds that hold dragons begin to fracture, the storm that follows could reshape the entire realm.

Rhaevyn Fyre is an emotionally powerful epic dragon fantasy featuring a female protagonist, a deeply layered dragon-human bond, and a sweeping world of political power, survival, and resistance.

The first spark of rebellion is often the quietest one.

Sometimes it begins with simply surviving.

Symbolism & Meaning

  • Yenna Vael / Yenna Gael: represents the physical body and conscious self. The part that speaks, works, complies, resists, and navigates danger in real time. Her choices are shaped by risk assessment, fear, hope, and endurance. When she appears calm, obedient, or conflicted, it reflects survival under control, not consent.

  • Rhaevyn Fyre: represents the inner self and psyche. The emotional core, intuition, and internal protector. The dragon holds what cannot be safely expressed: rage, grief, terror, longing, and resilience. Rhaevyn is both fragile and powerful, reflecting how survivors often develop deep inner strength while carrying profound wounds.

  • The Bond: the bond between Yenna and Rhaevyn represents the mind-body connection under trauma. When abuse occurs, survivors often separate internally to endure it. The bond’s restriction, manipulation, or weaponization reflects dissociation, emotional suppression, and the loss of agency imposed by control. Damage to the bond mirrors psychological harm.

  • The Order: represents patriarchal systems and societal structures that prioritize power, obedience, and image over individual well-being. It reflects institutions that claim to protect while enforcing silence and endurance, particularly for women. The Order’s cruelty is often justified as tradition, discipline, or necessity.

  • The Ward / Keeper Relationship: symbolizes romantic and marital dynamics rooted in dominance and control. The Keeper’s authority is framed as guidance and care, while the ward’s obedience is framed as virtue. The imbalance is intentional and mirrors real-world relationships shaped by entitlement, coercion, and outdated gender norms.
